TIPS for a SUCCESSFUL evening

  • SELECT 5 INDUSTRIES NOT 1 or 2
During registration, SELECT 5 industries that you are targeting.  This information is used to optimize your introductions at the event.  If you only pick one or two, you may be limiting yourself when you are meeting up to 20 people.  For instance, if you want to meet CPA's and only two attend, the system does not know how to optimize you to meet the other 18 and will randomly place you.  Pick 5 of your top choices.

  • NETWORK DON'T SELL
Though we certainly can select industries we sell to, 5-Minute Networking is NOT the time to sell.  It's time for an introduction.  Besides, why sell to one person when you can network with those who have influence over your prospects.  By building a relationship with them, you can be introduced to dozens of your best prospects with a glowing referral from your new contact!

  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE IMPORTANT
First impressions are important and many times you won't have the opportunity to change someone's mind once they've decided. You want to come across as a real professional, but relax and be yourself.  If you are likable and credible, people will want to meet with you again to get to know you better.

  • OPTIMIZE YOUR 5-MINUTES

If you try to give a sales pitch, chances are you will turn that person off.  Instead create a quick, clear concise message about who are and how you bring a benefit to others.  Then invest in being interested with the person across from you. Ask questions and see if there is a way you can help them.  Networking is reciprocal!  Remember, the speed networking opportunity is to create networking relationships.

  • SET THE STAGE DURING YOUR 5-MINUTE TIME FRAME

If you think the person across from you is a good connection, make sure to suggest a future meeting before leaving the table.  Tell them you will email them the next day to set up a time to get together...and then DO it.

  • QUANTITY VS QUALITY
Some may try to tell you there' is a short cut, but you can't get to quality without going through some type of quantity. Certainly not every person you meet in any venue is going to be a good connection for you, but speed networking allows you to recognize this in JUST 5 MINUTES and move onto the next person. This saves a ton of time.  After the event you can follow up with those that you feel you would like to build a networking or business relationship with.

  • MAKE COFFEE DATES
The biggest mistake I see people do after 5-Minute Networking is not follow up.  Speed Networking is a FIVE MINUTE introduction; it is not the end of the road.   After the event, go to the website 5minutenetworking.com and locate all the contact information of everyone you've met the night before.  You can select the ones whom you made a connection with and feel, after building a relationship, will pass referrals to each other. Then make coffee dates or appointments and get to know those people.  No one passes referrals until they have built trust with you.
